The boats, known as ‘toues’, have hardly changed over the centuries. They navigate the Loire, with its sandbanks and patches of greenery, thanks to the skill of the skippers. An intimate and educational experience offering insights into the local wildlife.

Around twenty landscape architects from across the world present their interpretations of the annual theme. Their work is often highly original, showcasing not only the flora but also the materials used.

SELF-GUIDED TOUR OF CHAUMONT-SUR-LOIRE CASTLE

Set in the heart of a landscaped park, Chaumont Castle overlooks the River Loire from a height of some forty metres. It was once owned by Catherine de’ Medici in 1552 and by her rival, Diane de Poitiers. The Princes of Broglie acquired it in 1875 and transformed it into a truly exceptional residence.

Resembling a fortress overlooking the Loire, this château boasts exquisite architecture
complemented by Italianate gardens. It houses a superb collection of furniture, a watchtower and a chapel where Leonardo da Vinci is buried.
