Each of the main three rivers of the department of Loir-et-Cher (41), constitutes a large set of landscapes which can be understood, by definition, only by being involved in the global course of these rivers. It is these valleys that offer the most spectacular or "picturesque" landscapes in the department, by opening the views thanks to the stronger reliefs, by crystallizing a part of the built heritage, that of the castles, the towns, the villages and of the troglodytic constructions, by often offering remarkable sites, and by benefiting from varied ecological circles, where mix wet zones of fund of valleys and dry circles of hillsides.
So, all in all appear eight large sets of landscapes in the department of Loir-et-Cher: Sologne, Beauce, Perche, borders of Touraine, borders of Berry, Loire valley, valley of the Loir and valley of the Cher.
The destination Blois Chambord-Loire Valley covers 90 municipalities including three of these landscapes: Loire valley (around Blois), Beauce (the North the Loire) and Sologne (the South the Loire). And in addition, the surprising Valley of the Cisse situated in the northwest of Blois.
The longest river of Europe in the wild state. Let us call back that the Loire Valley is registered on the world heritage of the UNESCO since the year 2000. In Loir-et-Cher, from Lestiou to Rilly sur Loire, the river offers a landscaped and cultural diversity remarkable to live all year round. Strolls organized in canoe, traditional boat, rowing and on banks by bicycle, on foot or on horseback take place in a precise frame. For some other leisure activities to be lived free around the Loire, it is better to be informed at first to observe some not binding rules. Some indications of prevention and\or ban registered below, will help you live your leisure in excellent conditions.
Fishing in the Loire
Fishing in the Loire is authorized on its whole departmental axis from Saint-Laurent-Nouan to Rilly-sur-Loire. The fisherman will have to be in possession of a valid fishing licence. Only the fishing of the Salmon is totally forbidden on the axis the Loire. All the fishing techniques are accessibles.

Fishing of the day carp on all of the axis and of night on certain sections of the Loire (information with the Federation).
Fishing of carnivores: Perch, Pikeperch, Pike, Silurid by boat or of the accessible edge by any techniques (lively, artificial decoys, handled, pull).
What fishes on my fishing rod?
We find in particular the Pikeperch, Silurid, Pike, Chub, Roach, Bremen, Bleak, common Carp, Gudgeon and others Mule.
Navigate in the Loire
The navigation is made at the own risks of the users. An order of the prefect on July 31st, 1975 regulates this navigation. If the driving boats are authorized in limited speed, jet-skis are forbidden. The launch can be made on the whole river in places allowing it. However, the users have to watch not to degrade the environment and to respect all the other users of the river (fishermen, activities of water-based leisures). However, the various bridges and the often low level of the Loire make difficult the navigation on several kilometers. That is why we cannot propose any lasting days cruises.
Swimming in the Loire
According to the order of the prefect of July 10th, 1970, the bathing is forbidden in the Loire for safety reasons on all of the department. In the meantime, you will find sandy beaches on the Loire to take the sun and some points of panorama such as the one situated in left bank between Blois and Saint-Dyé-sur-Loire that allows to admire the castle of Ménars. Ports also are pleasant places of walk. Take the left bank of the Loire, by leaving of the port of Creusille to Blois you can make from there some magnificent photos of the city.
And if you feel like it, take your bike to leave on one of the routes of Castles by bicycle ( Châteaux à Vélo) and discover the natural bathing of the country of Chambord.
The protected and remarkable animal species
A lot of species live around the river, they are protected and remarkable. During the practice of your leisure activities, the respect for all the fauna species is appropriate. Considered as a migratory corridor, the Loire welcomes migratory birds which use the islands of sands to have a long break in their journey. The Tern, and the little ringed plover arrive in April and make their nest on sandbanks, then leave to cross the winter on the African western coast. Some of these islands are protected today not to hamper the reproduction and damage the flora.
• The Beaver
• The amphibian Vole
• The Muskrat
• The Coypu (considered as harmful)
The main remarkable birds
• The Tern
• The Heron
• The Cormorant (species winter, holiday-maker, arrived in the middle of August he leaves in March to make his nest in the Scandinavian countries)
• The little Egret
• The Osprey (Make his nest in the forests of Sologne)
• The Hoopoed Lapwing
• The Kingfisher
• The Sand Martin
And a lot of other species that we find in the campaigns of Sologne and the Region Center-Loire Valley
LANDSCAPES OF SOLOGNE
THE BIG SOLOGNE AND THE WINE-MAKING SOLOGNE
In the southeast, the Sologne of forests and ponds extends mainly in the department, but also goes on in the South of the Loiret and in the northwest of the Cher to cover the main part of territories between Blois, Orléans and Bourges ; the forest of sologne made succeed the oaks of wood of birches and ferns, Corsican pines and maritime, as well as a trace of the forests of the XIXth century abundantly crashed by sweet chestnut trees. Its peculiarity comes largely from the nature of the ground, often acid, sometimes wet, sometimes on the contrary dried out. The extraordinarily dense network of ponds, constitutes the vastest surface of wet zones of international interest in continental Europe.
In Sologne, the vast woody areas enamelled by the myriad of the discreet ponds make up the Big Sologne which covers the main part of the surface; but westward, from Bracieux to Mur-de-Sologne, the forest opens gradually making way for the cultivated plots of land mixed with wood, where the vineyard marks the landscape of its imprint, imbricated in the truck-farming plots of land or of small breeding. Another landscape of Sologne appears, original: it is wine-making Sologne..
THE BEAUCE AND THE VALLEY OF THE CISSE
In Beauce, the country between Blois and the forrest of Marchenoir is traditionally called "Beauce Blésoise": its landscaped characteristics remain however similar to that of "Grande Beauce" or "Beauce Orléanaise" who extends beyond the forest of Marchenoir northward.
On the other hand, the valley of the Cisse, arisen discreetly from an insignificant fold in the open and levelled Beauce areas, constitutes a particular landscape from Champigny-en-Beauce in right bank and Averdon in left bank. When its reliefs in hollow expand and when the use of land diversifies, up to its outlet in the axis of the Loire valley on the West of the forest of Blois; also, in the North, the becoming fleecy hem that the various valleys tributaries of the Loir gives to Beauce quite a different face: this transition between valley of the Loir and Beauce is marked by a lively relief and with numerous afforestations.
